Michael Blackwell serves as Senior Managing Director of Mill Creek Residential’s North Texas office, where he leads the firm’s development activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. During his real estate career, Mr. Blackwell has been directly involved in the development and construction of multifamily and mixed-use communities with aggregate construction values in excess of $1.6 billion across the mid-Atlantic, southeast, and southwestern US.
Prior to joining Mill Creek, Mr. Blackwell was a Managing Director for Crescent Communities, where he led all aspects of the development process across the major Texas markets, including the origination of an urban portfolio with a development value over $425 million. Before opening the Dallas office for Crescent in 2014, Blackwell lead the company’s multifamily development activities in metro Washington, D.C., and Central Florida. Blackwell began his real estate career in metro Washington D.C., where he was involved in complex urban developments in the Capitol Riverfront and northern Virginia, including high-rise, mixed-use, and long-term ground lease projects. Outside of development, Mr. Blackwell spent five years in corporate risk management & insurance with global firms Marsh and Willis – primarily focused on major development projects and portfolio-level insurance programs for national apartment and student housing clients.
Mr. Blackwell holds an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampden-Sydney College, where he previously served on the Virginia college’s Board of Trustees. In addition to past involvement with NMHC, Mr. Blackwell is active in the North Texas chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), serves on the Board of Governors for Downtown Dallas Inc (DDI), and serves on the Executive Committee of The Real Estate Council (TREC), where he is currently Public Policy Chair. In the community, Mr. Blackwell has served on the board of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the board of the White Rock Lake Foundation.
